Colourful May

For our May meeting we welcomed Janet Phillips from The Threashing Barn, Sedbergh.

She talked about her creative journey from gaining a degree in Fine Arts and training to be a teacher to converting a spinning and dyeing mill in Sedbergh where she runs a successful craft business. There was a detour via marriage with a move to Hong Kong and another via an organic farm in Staffordshire. She also has packed in several successful business and three children. Wow.....

As well as her work, which as you can see is diverse and very colourful

3D silk vessels
Felt pots
Wall art
Jewellery - embroidered felt beads
Painted silk organza embellished with felt
Mini rag rug
Handmade paper with attached embroidery
Embroidered felted art
Wrapped Washing line baskets
Needle felting
Spun yarns incorporating sequins, felted flowers, rags, cotton threads
Various yarns dyed using natural ingredients and environmentally friendly methods

She has also a collection of antique oriental textiles and artefacts of which she brought a selection for us to see, like these carved walnuts.

A very entertaining evening. Thank you Janet.

Details for our June meeting are still being organised and will be sent round once finalised.
